Slasher movies are time and time again a guilty enjoyment for numerous movie enthusiasts. Right, they won’t garner censors’ numbers. They won’t get A+ scores from the movie media. They won’t as well get C scores from home-based Internet experts. Slasher movies will always be shriek-filled stories with meaningless outlines.But during the years, these slasher movies have imprinted – forgive the pun – a place of their own.
A large portion of the success of these slasher movies can be attributed to the Friday the 13th series and its 15 incarnations. Friday the 13th is a chain of films that starred a hockey mask-wearing psycho killer identified as Jason Voorhees. So well-liked is this series that it has become a core of pop culture, being recommended in numerous media outlets for a nice part of the recently completed century.
In 2009, a rerun of the series will be presented for the film going enthusiasts to live through. One more time, lovers of slasher movies and persons who are neophyte to the genre will have encounter the father of slasher-premised flicks, this time recreated for the recent generation.
Yes, Jason Voorhees is going to make a return!
This time, he won’t be fighting another film monster icon. He won’t be in outer space, freed from years of cryogenic deam. He won’t be fighting off the opposition of a woman telepath.
In its place, we will witness, or re-witness, the birth of a serial predator. We will discover the tale that produced a horror such as Jason Voorhees. We will see him frighten the unlucky vacationers enjoying the warm waters of Camp Crystal Lake.
It’s 2009 and it’s time for another Friday the 13th!
The remake is directed by Marcus Nispel, who also did the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The movie will star Derek Mears as Jason Voorhees, with Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti playing the male and woman leads, respectively.
The movie will be shown on a Friday the 13th, specifically February 13, 2009.
